Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER Spring/Summer 2027 collection, titled “Poisonous Plants,” is a particularly interesting denim collection.
The collection was shown during Fashion Week in Paris and centers on a collaboration with Belgian artist Michaël Borremans.
Featured is a Type II denim jacket in heavy woven fabric, distinguished by irregular and wavy seams. It takes the classic trucker construction and reforms it into something new and exciting.
Some of the looks were about loose, easy-fitting jeans, worn with relatively simple tops.
Borremans’s imagery appears across the collection, and details like topstitching around the jeans’ back pockets turn ordinary workwear construction into part of an artistic composition.
Summing it up, the notable UNDERCOVER contribution is heritage denim construction being “distorted” through artistically placed seams and surface treatments. Definitely a more Japanese avant-garde take on the continuing workwear-denim trend.
