This past week Balenciaga presented its Resort 2025 collection in Shanghai – a first time for the brand. Showing in China signifies Balenciaga’s ongoing strategy to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market, where the brand already enjoys a significant following. The brand sure is Parisian, but China is practically its home market. There are more Balenciaga stores in China than in any other country.
The show took place at the prestigious Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai, a harmonious blend of fashion and art, highlighting the brand’s commitment to creativity and cultural integration. The runway show was a visual and auditory experience, with models walking through spaces designed to resemble rain-soaked streets and stormy landscapes. The sound of rain and thunder added to the immersive atmosphere, creating a powerful connection between the audience and the collection. How can we not love the perfect “collaboration” of fashion and nature – a perfect harmony!
There is just nothing more exciting than nature and fashion working together!
The Resort 2025 Collection drew inspiration from a mix of urban streetwear, traditional Chinese elements, and futuristic designs. Demna’s vision for this collection was to create a dialogue between the past, present, and future, reflecting Shanghai’s dynamic evolution.
The show featured bold and innovative designs, characteristic of Balenciaga’s aesthetic under Demna’s leadership. The choice of Shanghai as the venue highlights the city’s vibrant cultural backdrop and underscores its importance to Balenciaga’s global strategy.
And, of course, there was also a lot of cool denim, reflecting Demna’s signature blend of high fashion and casual elements. The denim pieces were characterized by bold, elongated silhouettes and a distinctive black color palette that dominated the runway. Notable denim items included dramatic silhouettes in Demna’s signature oversized styles. Featuring extreme proportions as well as unconventional, surprising cuts.
Leather was also very present – all of the jackets with over-long sleeves. You may pay attention to this detail as this will definitely be a big trend this coming fall and winter.
